A Letter To My Son (By: Mark Baker)

For Elias’ first birthday, Mark wrote him this letter.

My son,

Last year on this day when you were born we prayed Psalm 25:14-15 over your life, that you would be a friend of God, that you would know that friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him. We prayed that one day you would echo the words of the Psalmist and say “My eyes are ever toward the Lord” and that you would live out the meaning of your name, that your life would be a declaration that “Yahweh is my God.”

This year our prayer is the same, and now that you are beginning to walk and beginning to talk we pray that not only would your eyes be focused on the Lord, but that in your walk and in your words you would honor the Lord with your life. We pray Psalm 25:8-9 over you, that you would know:

Good and upright in the Lord: therefore he instructs sinners in the way. He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way.

Happy first birthday! We love you!

Love, Dad and Mom

  1. This almost made me cry when he read it at Elias’ birthday party–so sweet! I am so thankful that God has given you a godly husband and daddy for your baby boy. I pray this along with the both of you–that Elias would know Jesus at an early age and continue to grow stronger and stronger in the Lord throughout his life! Love u!
