5 Things I Like…

1. I love taking classes. I was actually sad when college was over. Thankfully my church is offering Sunday night Bible classes. I am taking one called So Great A Salvation. We are studying different words like justification, adoption, redemption, etc…

2. I love picnics. One time I thought it would be romantic to take a bike ride and then have a picnic with Mark. However, we were so starving from peddling up hill the whole time, that by the time we got there we were hot and on the verge of being grouchy. I still laugh about that. Now we drive to our picnic stops and have an amazing time.

3. I love to use Isaiah 61:11 as a prayer for my church and country. “For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to sprout up, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to sprout up before the nations.”

4. I love my mom! She has been such an amazing servant to my family. She always puts others before herself. She is not only a servant, but she has a deep well in the Lord and is such a blessing to our family.

5. I love hats. Part of the reason I loved watching the royal wedding last week was because of all of the hats.

We Survived The Tornado Winds And Hail

Last night they issued a tornado warning for Knox County and much of the surrounding area. When I heard this on the radio, I was ready to grab a fog horn and run around my house and scream “take cover.” Thankfully Mark kept me calm. I kept trying to explain to him that I am from Arizona and we don’t deal with tornadoes over there. Besides even if we did we wouldn’t have to jump into a little ditch on the side of the road, we could jump into the Grand Canyon and we’d be safe. The tornado would miss us completely. All that to say, I had a hard time staying calm.

We watched the scary storm clouds roll in.

The boys listening to the tornado warnings on the radio. Don’t they look scared!

Yes, I freaked out and made us take couch cushions into the bathroom.

We had at least five glass windows break and three screen windows break.

Our kitchen window was the worst. Glass blew all the way into our living room. We had hail on our carpet.

Our vinyl siding will need to be replaced.

The culprit: golf ball sized hail!

Our Total Damage:

  • Five broken windows
  • Torn up vinyl siding (the back and side of the house)
  • Three broken screens windows
  • Our back door is broken
  • Mark’s truck is dented and his mirror shattered
  • Chimney damage
  • Roof damage

We are thankful no one got hurt. We can easily replace stuff, but we can’t replace people.

Once-A-Month Cook

It’s a miracle! I actually made dinner. I know what you are wondering. “Did it taste good?” Well friends…that is not the point. The point is: I made dinner! There was food on the table for my family, and get this. I didn’t just make one meal. I made ten.

Thanks to my good friend Ally, I learned how to cook for the freezer. Ally came up with a great menu. We went grocery shopping, and got together and cooked for five hours.

Our Menu:

  1. Simple Lasagna
  2. Tex-Mex Beef Enchiladas
  3. French Dip Sandwiches
  4. Cheesy Potatoes and Ham
  5. Mac-n-cheese and Ham
  6. Pizza
  7. Honey Lime Chicken
  8. Cream Cheese Chicken
  9. Lime Teriyaki Chicken
  10. Quiche Lorraine

I won’t lie I feel so proud of us that I think we should get golden oven mitts with our names embroidered on it for our achievement.

Here is Ally with our Enchiladas.

I made the lasagna.

Our Pizzas

We had so many pots and pans out.

After a long day of cooking, we put all of our meals in the freezer. Cooking all of this food at once has been so rewarding, and I would highly recommend it. I love being a once-a-month cook.

Our Family Day

Mark had a little time off this week so we decided to take a family day. We traveled in our own town and stopped long enough to see the things we normally pass right by.

Here is where we went:

  1. Starbucks for my coffee frappuccino
  2. The World’s Fair Park
  3. Market Square
  4. Krutch Park
  5. Downtown K-town
  6. Mcdonalds for dinner
  7. The Golden Roast for Mark’s coffee
  8. Church

My Tooth Drama

I knew my tooth hurt, but I didn’t realize how bad it was until my dentist called the oral surgeon and he agreed to get me in today.  I normally want to sneak out of the dentist chair and escape into the freedom of the parking lot, but today I sat in his office like a sad puppy with its tail between its legs. I just sat in the chair and practically opened my mouth before the dentist even asked me to. I could have cried on demand too… but don’t worry, I held back my emotions.

It still gets to me every time someone asks me to rate my pain. I feel like I can’t say “ten” because that should be reserved for child birth or something. I can’t say “nine” or he’ll think I’m a complete wimp. If I say “three” he’ll send me home with a pat on the back and a new toothbrush.

What am I supposed to say?  How am I supposed to rate my pain? Today I broke all of the “number” rules and simple said “excruciating” with big bulging eyes. That is when he called the surgeon. I think he got it.

All of that to say I have to get my tooth removed. I am usually against pulling teeth out of adult’s mouths because they never come back, but today I don’t care. With the mood I’m in I’d probably sign up for dentures if they said I would never have a tooth ache again.

But teeth intact, I am glad I live in the time period I do. What if I had this tooth in Little House on the Prairie Days? Sadly, I don’t think I would make it.

On that note; thanks for reading. I’ll keep you posted on my tooth drama. On second thought, I’ll spare you the details.

Fun Stuff Fridays

1. I love our Kitchen Aid mixer.

2. I love this picture. It somehow inspires me to be a better housewife.

3. I love Bible Study. Patriarchs by Beth Moore is probably one of my favorites. This is a ten week study through Genesis 12-50. I love seeing how God pursued a relationship with mankind. This study helped me discover concepts like covenant, blessing, and promise.

4.  For some reason I like this necklace.

5. I like this song by Jamie Grace.

Spring Cleaning

Mark and I recently did some spring cleaning. Here is a storage idea that we use and love. I read about this in the book  The Duggars: 20 and Counting by Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar.

1. Label your storage box with a number.

2. Write that same number on a note card. Next label where you will be storing this box.

3. On the other side of the notecard write everything that you put in the storage box. I suggest using a pencil so that way you can easily erase an item if you remove it from the box.

4. Put all of your finished notecards into a labeled notecard box. Now instead of digging through twenty boxes next time you need to find something, you can simply flip through a few notecards and go directly to the box you need.

5 Things I Love About Mark Today

  1. Mark has a secret talent. He can sing almost any old school DC Talk song there is. I love this because somewhere along the way I started learning the songs. He has successfully taught me all of the “hard parts.” You should hear us go for it… actually be glad you haven’t – it is really scary.
  2. Mark let me sleep in this morning. He and Elias played in his office while I was peacefully snoozing. I think he should get a gold star for this act of kindness.
  3. Mark went to work today, while I stayed home with Elias. I love how hard he works. He is truly a servant to everyone he encounters.
  4. Mark invites me into his office. Earlier he gave me a tour of all of his latest books, and told me about all the new things that I should be reading. I love this about him.
  5. Mark can make Elias laugh like nobody else. I love watching him with our baby boy. They are so funny together.

Fun Stuff Fridays

1. I love my friends. I could talk for hours and hours with the sweet people God has put in my life. I am so thankful for them.

2. I like Praise Baby DVD’s. These videos are a fun way to teach Elias new worship songs.

3. I like hair bows. I can’t help it, I think they are cute.

4. I love my local church. I mean L.O.V.E. God has changed my heart in so many ways because of the believers He has put around me. Read Why We Love The Church by Kevin Deyoung and Ted Kluck if you aren’t in love with yours.

5. I love buying things 90% off. Mark and I bought four things at Lifeway for under $12. Just one of them was regularly priced at $35. I love deals!
